Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain at the BBC Proms 2009

Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain at the BBC Proms 2009

Last comment by effort and style on 5-Dec-09:
Although I took this pic, the copyright belongs to the BBC. The photo of the audience was taken to be a memento of the occasion when the Albert Hall was filled with people who had learned one of the songs in the concert programme and brought along their ukes to play along with the Ukelele Orchestra of Great Britain.

This fab idea was the brainchild of a very creative and lovely man, Roland Taylor, who I have the privelege of having as my boss in my day job.

Because of the special purpose of the photo, in my personal opinion I reckon anyone who's paid their BBC licence fee is licensed to use it for personal use, provided they attribute credit back to the beeb.

For the shot I perched my tripod just behind the bust of Sir Henry Wood above the stage.

Wood founded the Proms, the greatest classical music festival in the world, with the ethos that the festival should be accessible to all.

The concerts have a delightful informal atmosphere. The Proms name comes from the promenaders in the central arena who may stand, amble, sit and lie down as they wish while they enjoy the concerts given by the best artists in the world.
